Bath Time

Soon, the shower pod will be a thing of the past – and hopefully something I will never experience again.  It’s just one of those things that never made sense to me (although the rumor is that it keeps families with children from renting).

Rather than dwell on the pod, I’m looking forward toward the future… which includes a tub.  I’m especially excited about detail that because that means we actually get to style the bathroom.  This will involve painting the walls, buying a shower curtain, and then accessorizing. bathroombase

As of right now, we’re currently working with a basic bathroom vanity in a medium wood color, a black and white basket weave tile for the floor, and the towels we registered for (these in Aegean – via Macys).  We’re not starting with much, but I think that’s great because it will give us a lot of freedom to do what we want.

That said, I’ve come up with three different options for directions we could go in.  Rather than making mood boards, I thought I would edit the photo of our bathroom.  I think it helps see everything together.

[Option 1]

AKERKULLA Shower Curtain (via IKEA)
Martha Stewart Living Paint in Salvia (via Home Depot)

This is our boldest option.  It would include a nice green-teal color on the walls and a colorful shower curtain.  It’s easily the most cheery of the options, and definitely budget friendly (as well as provide us with an excuse to stop at an IKEA!). bathroom2

[Option 2]

Room Essentials Leaf Shower Curtain (via Target)
Martha Stewart Living Paint in Cornbread (via Home Depot)

This option is also cheery, but that mostly has to do with the paint color – one that I’ve been a fan of for a long, long time.  It’s definitely a classic pairing of the yellow and grey.  You can’t go wrong with a geometric pattern, either. bathroom1

[Option 3]

interDesign Carlton Extra-Long Shower Curtain (via Home Depot)
Martha Stewart Living Paint in Lemongrass (via Home Depot)

Our final option is possibly influenced by my eagerness for Spring to arrive, but it’s a beaut none the less.  A simple white waffle shower curtain with a soft color on the wall.  It sort of feels like a spa in how calming it looks. bathroom3

We’ll probably use this week to mull it over (and this weekend to purchase the shower curtain – I hope) but I’m curious…

I’m a tub girl all the way! Both of our apartments have had walk-in showers. One of the first things I’m going to do when we buy a house, is take a bubble bath :P

    • Kristen

      Haha I like that idea!

  • Ashleigh

I’m a shower girl, in my old flat I probably had a bath once every 3 months, but now I don’t have one I really really miss it. Next house will definitely have a bath xox

  • Jess @ Little House. Big Heart.

    3. Definitely 3.

  • Annabel Vita

We have a shower pod – it’s the first time I’ve been without a bath since University (and I would never have bathed in one of those tubs – one of them had that curvy plastic roofing instead of tile… eurgh!), but I have a nice bath at my mum’s house every week or so – and then she blow dries my hair for me, so the situation has it’s advantages!

I LOVE OPTION ONE! I think it would make the space so fun and bright. I also think it’s makes the vanity look nice – it sticks out a bit in the more neutral colour schemes.

    They’re all lovely though!

I’m torn between options 1 and 3. Both great options. I would only be concerned that option 1 may not play nice with a new place if you move and try to take it with you. Option 3 is supremely versatile.

We have a large soaking tub in our master bath that I may have used once, but I primarily use to give our dog a bath. We may downsize it when we remodel the room since we use it so little.

Also great Photoshop skills. No idea how you did that.

    • Kristen

Haha – I did it with magic. Perhaps I’ll post a tutorial on that…

  • Christine @ Casa-de-Christine

I love option 1! So fun!! I seriously want that shower curtain now.

Great job with the photo shopping!

I was unfamiliar with the term shower pod and had to look it up. I think sometimes it’s nice to have a walk-in shower as long as you’ve got a tub as well… which is pretty much not possible in most apartments.

    • Kristen

      Unfortunately, very true.

I just looked up shower pod myself and there were some pretty interesting results. If you scroll down on our apartment #2 tour page, there’s a photo of what I’m talking about.

  • Ashley@AttemptsAtDomestication

OPTION 1! OPTION 1! OPTION 1! I absolutely LOVE the color and the curtain!

I never took baths in high school, college, or Jesse and I’s first year of marriage but now that I have a bathtub at our house I LOVE a good bath occasionally! Especially with a glass of wine and a movie or show to watch on the laptop haha!

  • Katie @ pps

Although I am a total sucker for bright shower curtains, I got a similar one to option 2 in one of our bathrooms and I am IN LOVE WITH IT. Plus you can change up accessories super easy. All your options are GREAT, I can’t wait to see what you do!!!

  • Kelly @ Corner of Main

I vote 1, but I love me some bold print! All the choices are cute. I am a fan of the tub…once it’s cleaned of all prior residents cooties. lol.

    • Kristen

Oh I hear you… that was one of the first things we did (actually, the entire apartment got quite the scrubbing)!

  • Erika @ Our Cozy Cubbyhole

    Love option 1!

We only have a shower and I would kill for a tub! Especially when it is time to give the dog a bath…
