I have slowly been accruing pretty fabrics. Some are left over from other projects, some are found on sale, some are for future projects. While I love having them around for future projects, they also kind of haunt me because I should be using them, right?
Well, I finally decided to make a dent in my fabric pile.
First up was this awesome kelly green fabric I found on sale months ago at Joann Fabrics. I only grabbed two yards but I wish I had grabbed the whole role.
You’re probably thinking how creative and/or original I am for covering a green pillow with a green pillowcase. I’m still a fan of the original pillow, but I am a girl who loves bold colors. Especially green… and even more so when it’s next to navy.
I decided to make an envelope pillowcase (when I do this, I always use this tutorial from Teal and Lime). It was a 30 minute project total – and that includes prep work! A big part of this was due to my new Fiskars Rotary Cutter. Guys – if you sew, you should totally invest in one of these (along with a cutting mat and a metal ruler).
It’s a game changer.
Remember when I mentioned how excited I was for Fall? Turns out, I’m still crazy excited… so much so that I had to buy seasonal fabric. I had originally picked up a cat fabric (this one if you’re curious) but ultimately decided to go with a neutral pumpkin pattern. From a far, it doesn’t look overly pumpkin (as you can tell below) but there are certainly a ton of pumpkins in our apartment now!
Since I already had the sewing machine out, I kind of had to make the pillow case…
…and then make sure if fit…
…and then admire it.
Yep. I definitely had to do it.
I’ve never used orange to decorate in our apartment before, aside from the few mini pumpkins we have. I’ve got to admit – it’s kind of a fun color to have in here! It makes me wonder why I haven’t used orange before. I don’t see it ever being a dominant color, but maybe I’ll start splashing some pops of it around the apartment.
So, that’s where we’re at in our apartment right now. Tiny changes that I think have added a big punch of much needed color.
Have any of you started decorating for Fall yet? When are you going to start? I’m not going to take my decorations out of storage until this weekend, but once it’s Saturday, it’s fair game. Who’s with me??
